Steps to Overcoming Cocaine Addiction
Steps to Overcoming Cocaine Addiction
JC Recovery Center’s Approach
Cocaine is a highly addictive substance that’s classified as a Schedule II drug. While it does have some limited medical uses, it is primarily known as an illegally sold and abused drug. Cocaine is a stimulant that is highly addictive and has a high potential for abuse and misuse. Made from the leaves of the coca plant, cocaine causes users to experience an intense high that is often characterized by intense bouts of energy and extreme happiness. Unfortunately, cocaine addiction is anything but happy. JC’s Recovery provides high-quality addiction treatment complemented by our faith-based support. We understand how profoundly cocaine addiction affects a person’s life and health. With high-quality treatment like our 12 step programs, we can help you successfully overcome cocaine addiction and live a healthier happier life.
Evaluation
The first step in the treatment process must begin with an evaluation. At JC’s Recovery Center, we provide professional psychiatric evaluation services in order to recommend the ideal course of treatment for each client. A psychiatric assessment allows us to determine if a person is experiencing a mental health or mood disorder along with their addiction. Co-occurring disorders are extremely common among people suffering from cocaine addiction. If a disorder like depression or post-traumatic stress disorder is diagnosed, it’s essential to provide simultaneous treatments to promote optimum healing from both conditions.
Medical Detox
When a person becomes addicted to a substance such as cocaine, they will experience physical dependency, psychological dependency, and even social/behavioral dependencies. Medical or clinically supervised detox targets physical dependency. At JC’s Recovery Center, we offer clinically supervised detox. This process can take a few days or a couple of weeks depending on how long the person has been addicted to cocaine and if they’re addicted to any other substances. Their individual chemistry also impacts the detox time frame.
During detox, people may experience withdrawal symptoms. These can be mild, intermediate, or severe. We provide treatment in order to prevent symptoms from becoming severe and to make our clients feel as comfortable as possible. Even after detox, a person may still feel cravings and urges to use, but these should diminish in time and through the course of our treatment.
Post-Detox Treatment
Once detox is completed, we can target the other dependencies associated with cocaine addiction. Program treatments will vary in accordance with the plan a client chooses. We feature partial hospitalization programs, intensive outpatient programming, and traditional outpatient therapy. Some people may need a more robust level of support as they begin their recovery journey. These people should consider our PHP or IOP programs.
Each of our programs features evidence-based treatments such as one-on-one counseling and group therapy. Research shows that these treatments have a positive impact on addiction recovery. We also offer 12 step programming for the same reason; it works! Additionally, we provide a wide range of holistic therapies and activities that promote recovery.
As a Christian rehab, JC’s Recovery Center provides a faith-based focus that is important to many of our clients who want to grow their faith and use it to rebuild their lives. We offer faith-based discussion groups where we talk about what it means to grow as a Christian and lead a life of faith.
How Many Steps Are There?
Recovery can involve numerous steps–not merely the 12 that have become synonymous with 12 step programs. At JC’s Recovery Center, we provide customized therapy. So, our clients can include more treatments than what 12-step programs afford. Some clients opt to include family therapy in their treatment plans. Others attend our weekly yoga classes to practice mindfulness.
In answer to the question, we believe that individuals should take as many steps as they need to in order to achieve lasting recovery. Because cocaine is a powerfully addictive substance, clients often spend time in an intensive program, and then, later, when they’ve grown in confidence and have more of a command of their urges, they can transition to a less intensive program.
Without formal therapy, substance abuse won’t go away of its own accord. This is a chronic disease that is progressive and will impact a person’s mental and physical health.
