Spiritual Principles Combined with Scientific Therapies
Proven Therapies Combined with Spiritual Principles
A Christian rehab program meets individuals’ needs as they tackle the difficult task of detox, rehab, and recovery. The challenges a newly sober person faces as they give up their substance, investigate their past, and rebuild broken relationships are more easily overcome when the person has the support of a religious recovery community. Individuals involved with Christian treatment have common values, goals, and inspiration because of their shared beliefs, making the faith-based recovery community a good place for anyone looking for support on their journey to sobriety.
However, faith-based recovery is best used in conjunction with evidence-based treatments. Together, these different means of therapy work to heal all areas of the individual’s life – mind, body, and spirit. Clinical therapies work well to help recovering addicts understand why they do what they do and how to overcome the triggers to use again. Spiritual therapy provides the power to live a sober life, through the peace of forgiveness and the hope of a new life. A person can learn how science says they are able to remain sober, but it is God who changes lives and hearts, and a closer relationship with God promotes long-term healing.
Evidence-Based Treatments
JC’s Recovery Center offers many different therapy types that have been proven to work and are successfully used in treatment centers across the country. When an individual enters our facility, our professionals conduct an assessment to help determine the person’s history, drug use patterns, and needs. A treatment plan is established that spells out what therapies will be used, what level of care is needed, and estimated length of stay.
Treatment options at JC’s Recovery include the following:
Intervention services
Before the person can even enroll in a treatment program, they need to admit they have a problem and be willing to accept help. This is not always an easy task to accomplish, and it is often up to caring friends and family to approach the addict in the hope they will get help. When loved ones are unable or unwilling to try to talk their family member into getting help, intervention services are a major source of help. An interventionist is skilled at helping families prepare to confront the addict and brings everyone together to discuss the issues in a civil and effective way. Once the interventionist has done their job, the addict and their family will be on their way to rehab and the benefits it brings.
Dual diagnosis
Addiction commonly occurs along with mental illness. Both conditions exasperate each other, but it is nearly impossible to determine which comes first in many cases. An individual who struggles with mental illness will try to numb their feelings, pain, and insecurity with drugs and alcohol, putting them at risk for dependence and addiction. On the other hand, many types of drug and alcohol use directly impact the brain and can cause damage, leading to mental illness. In the end, it doesn’t usually matter which comes first because both conditions need to be addressed and treated simultaneously in order for the person to recover. Dual diagnosis treatment is the comprehensive treatment of addiction through rehab and mental illness through medication and therapy.
Helping Pregnant Addicts
For women who are pregnant and struggling with addiction, special considerations need to be made. Detox is more dangerous when an unborn baby is involved, and special care needs to be given when helping pregnant addicts. Regular physical examinations by an OB-GYN, a healthy diet and regular, moderate exercise will all help ensure the baby’s wellbeing is preserved. Mothers-to-be have other issues to consider as well, as they prepare for their future and how they plan to care for their baby. Trusted program leaders are equipped to work with pregnant addicts in recovery and provide the special care they need.
Trauma resolution therapy
Nearly all addiction stems from trauma somewhere. Whether it is a tumultuous relationship, a traumatic experience, or unresolved stress and unhappiness, it is important to address these issues as the individual goes through rehab. Those who have developed Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, whether it has been diagnosed or not, have special needs during recovery. Our trauma resolution therapy helps clients deal with their memories of past traumatic experiences and work to heal the painful past, so they can move on to a sober future.
Individual and Group Therapy
Individual therapy and therapy in a group setting are both vital to recovery from drug and alcohol addiction. Individual counseling helps the person talk through their inner thoughts, feelings, fears, struggles, and regrets and work through them in a safe environment. One-on-one therapy allows the client and the treatment professional to establish a confidential and trusting relationship where barriers are broken down and they can get to the heart of the addiction.
Group therapy sessions include small groups of clients who meet regularly and are led by a therapist. These groups are designed to build trusting relationships between newly sober individuals and help create a support system around each person in recovery. Group therapy sessions are valuable tools to help those in recovery develop social skills, learn about the struggles of others, and both gain and give support to each other.
Christian Life Coaching
Everyone who has been through addiction recovery needs long term support in order to remain sober and on the right path to recovery. As the individual leaves rehab and re-acclimates to daily life with its temptations and disappointments, there will be challenges ahead. It takes dedication, support, and solid life skills to tackle life while remaining sober.
Christian life coaching is a valuable tool that provides support and skills that the individual will need when returning to life, work, and relationships. While therapy sessions help the client deal with past experiences and present thoughts and feelings, life coaching helps the individual focus on long-term goals for the future. Career building, relationship help, and personal and professional goal advancement are just part of the plan of action clients need to develop before they leave their rehab facility.
Spiritual Counseling
Because of the power of both clinical therapy and applying spiritual principles, merging the two in a spiritual counseling program provides holistic healing. While the individual in recovery goes through the steps of recovery and receives addiction treatment therapy, they should also receive spiritual guidance that will allow them to grow in their walk with God. This combination of spiritual counseling prepares the individual fully for a new life, by relying on the strength of God’s love and applying the skills they learned in therapy.
